APA-Conakry(Guinea) Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov last visited Guinea in 2013.
The head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, paid a few hours visit to Conakry on Monday 3 June. The friendly working visit is part of a review of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Guinea, covering areas of historical partnership.
After being received by his Guinean counterpart, Dr Morissanda Kouyaté, the two diplomats and their teams went into a bilateral meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“During this meeting, which took place in a friendly and fraternal atmosphere, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Guineans Living Abroad, Dr Morissanda Kouyaté, and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, reviewed the areas of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Guinea, particularly in the fields of mining, security and defence, education, etc.,” the Guinean Presidency said.
They recalled the strong historical and diplomatic ties between Moscow and Conakry. At the end of the meeting, Dr Morissanda Kouyaté and Sergueï Lavrov welcomed the efforts made to strengthen cooperation between their countries.
They pledged to “strengthen the Guinean-Russian friendship and the Conakry-Moscow axis of cooperation within the framework of a win-win partnership”.
The Guinean President, General Mamadi Doumbouya, later received the Russian head of diplomacy and his delegation at the Palais Mohammed V.
Lavrov conveyed a message of friendship and brotherhood from Vladimir Putin to President Doumbouya.
In return, President Doumbouya asked Sergei Lavrov to convey all his friendship and gratitude to President Putin.
Guinea and Russia agreed to “strengthen and diversify the areas of bilateral cooperation”, particularly by revitalising the intergovernmental commission in various fields such as mining, infrastructure, security, defence and education.
After Conakry, Lavrov travelled to Brazzaville, where the Libyan crisis was discussed, before the final stop in N’Djamena, Chad.
