The 10 lucky nominees in the coveted “Best International Film” category will be revealed on January 23, 2024.
Following its prestigious win at the Marrakech International Film Festival, “The Mother of All Lies” has made its way into the final shortlist of foreign films in competition at the 96th Academy Awards, scheduled for March 10, 2024 in Los Angeles, USA.
A total of 15 films were unveiled in the pre-selection phase, of which only 10 will have the privilege of appearing in the final shortlist for the “Best International Film” Oscar.
Asmae El Moudir’s captivating story seeks to unravel the threads of lies that run through her own family. Using a model of her childhood neighbourhood and figurines of her relatives, the filmmaker re-enacts her personal story. Through her narrative voice, she deftly juggles national history with her own, evoking the bread riots of 1981 and exploring their connection to contemporary Moroccan society.
Before shining in Marrakech, “The Mother of All Lies” had already won nearly 17 awards at leading international festivals, including the crowning glory with the “Prix de la mise en scene” in the “Un Certain Regard” category at the Cannes Film Festival last May.
The 96th Academy Awards ceremony, the highlight of the global film industry, will be held on Sunday night, Monday March 11, 2024, live from Los Angeles.
The eyes of the world will be riveted on this prestigious ceremony, where Moroccan film aspires to make its mark on international cinema.
