APA-Windhoek (Namibia) Namibian President Hage Geingob is in the United States for a seven-day specialised medical treatment for cancer, his office has announced.
In a statement, the Presidency said Geingob, who announced on January 19 that cancerous cells have been detected in his body following a routine medical check-up last week, was on a “medical leave of absence” from January 25 to February 2 during which he would undergo treatment by oncologists in Los Angeles.
“The president has accepted the medical offer by leading scientists and medical professionals in Los Angeles, California to undergo novel therapy for the cancerous cells in the United States of America,” his office said in a statement.
The Presidency assured Namibians that Geingob was in good spirits and continued to discharge of his duties as head of state.
