APA-Windhoek (Namibia) Namibia’s President Hage Geingob underwent a “minor” procedure at a South African hospital on Friday to correct a defect that blocked blood flow between his heart and the rest of the body.
In a statement, the presidency said Geingob’s doctors “detected a mild aortic stenosis” defect on the president’s heart during a routine recent medical check-up.
“On the advice of medical staff, President Geingob successfully underwent today, 9 June 2023, a preventive minor aortic procedure in the Republic of South Africa,” the presidency said.
Mild aortic stenosis is a defect that narrows the aortic valve opening and restricts blood flow out of the heart to the aorta and the rest of the body.
The office assured Namibians that Geingob was fit and healthy, and would resume duties on June 13.
