The Super Falcons of Nigeria on Thursday defeated their Cameroonian counterparts 1-0 in the quarter-final match of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament played in Casablanca, Morocco.
The Super Falcons dominated the game in the first half of the match, but failed to convert any of their chances and superior shots at goal.
The first half ended goalless.
The Super Falcons’ domination of the game continued in the second half and their efforts yielded the needed dividend when Rasheedat Ajibade headed in the ball into the net from a beautiful pass by Ifeoma Onumonu in the 57th minute of the game for the only goal of the match.
The Cameroonians pressed on in search of the equalizer, but their efforts were frustrated by the defence of the Super Falcons.
Despite the changes made by the two teams to improve their chances in the game, the score line remained 1-0 in favour of the Super Falcons.
With this victory, the Super Falcons have qualified for the semi-final of the tournament and also booked a place in the Women’s FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023.
The Nigerian team, which is the defending champions of the tournament will take on Morocco for the semi-final of the tournament.
Morocco defeated Botswana 2-1 in the quarter final on Wednesday in Casablanca to qualify for the semi-final as well as picked one of the tickets for the Women World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next year.
