United Bank for Africa’s (UBA) strong financial performance, quality customer service, and continued support for accelerated economic growth on the African continent have all earned it this prestigious award.
The good times continue for UBA Group. The financial institution has just been named African Bank of the Year by Banker Magazine, the leading international financial news publication published by the London-based Financial Times.
This year, the group broke a record by winning the prestigious African Bank of the Year and Bank of the Year awards in 13 countries. With a total of 14 awards, “this is the first time in nearly a century of existence of The Banker magazine that a banking group has won 14 awards in a single edition,” a statement sent to APA Thursday reads.
“If several African banks have impressed the jury this year, the most deserving winner for the African Bank of the Year award was not in doubt. UBA Group is the clear winner based on many criteria. UBA’s performance has been impressive across the board, with very strong financial results in most of its markets,” the Banker’s Middle East and Africa editor, John Everington said.
“As I always say, UBA must be on the right track. Winning 14 awards for 13 subsidiaries, as well as the Bank of the Year award on the African continent is a real achievement,” UBA Group Managing Director Kennedy Uzoka declared.
“These awards reassure us that we are well on our way to establishing our leadership position in Africa as we continue to deliver superior quality to all our stakeholders. These accolades go to our millions of customers around the world and our thousands of employees. They are the real reason we continue to win,” Uzoka went on to say.
Since 1926, the Bank of the Year Award has recognized the world’s best banking institutions and is acknowledged as the industry benchmark for banking excellence. The 2021 edition recognizes institutions that have outperformed their peers in terms of performance, strategic initiatives and response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
United Bank for Africa Plc is a leading pan-African financial institution, providing banking services to more than 25 million customers through more than 1,000 branches and contact points in 20 African countries.
Based in the United States of America, the United Kingdom and France, UBA claims to bring people and businesses together across Africa by offering retail, commercial and corporate banking, innovative cross-border payment and money transfer solutions, trade finance and ancillary banking services.
