Nigeria’s U-17 Women Football team, the Flamingos on Sunday defeated their German counterparts 3-2 on penalties to clinch the bronze medal in the third place match played in Mumbai, India.
The Flamingos took the lead early in the match and maintained a 3-0 lead against the Germans up to the 70th minute of the match.
But the Germans rallied back and levelled the score line at 3-3 before the 90th minute of the regulation time and the match was decided through penalty shoot-out, which the Flamingos won by 3-2 to take the Bronze medal of the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women World Cup.
The two teams had met in the Group stage of the tournament and the Flamingos lost 1-2 to the Germans, who topped the group with 9 points, while the Flamingos was second with 6 points.
In the finals played on Sunday, Spain defeated Colombia 1-0 to clinch the trophy, while Colombia won the Silva medal of the tournament.
