A total turnover of 2.644 billion shares worth N45.450 billion in 44,189 deals was traded this week by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange.
The weekly report of transactions released on Friday in Lagos by the Exchange showed that the figures were in contrast to a total of 2.510 billion shares valued at N32.816 billion that exchanged hands last week in 40,736 deals.
The Financial Services Industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 1.587 billion shares valued at N20.896 billion traded in 18,686 deals, while the Oil and Gas Industry followed with 385.514 million shares worth N4.678 billion in 4,579 deals.
The third place was the Consumer Goods Industry, with a turnover of 221.578 million shares worth N12.668 billion in 8,919 deals.
It added that trading in the top three equities namely Oando Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc and United Bank for Africa Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 732.276 million shares worth N7.148 billion in 7,020 deals, contributing 27.70% and 15.73% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
According to the report, a total of 5.826 million units valued at N65.961 million were traded this week in 101 deals compared with a total of 9,775 units valued at N1.867 million transacted last week in 79 deals.
In the Bonds section, a total of 138,031 units valued at N148.301 million were traded this week in 25 deals compared with a total of 734,101 units valued at N702.531 million transacted last week in 22 deals.
The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalization appreciated by 0.91% to close the week at 68,143.34 and N37.295 trillion respectively.
Similarly, all other indices finished higher with the exception of NGX Insurance, NGX Oil & Gas, NGX Industrial Goods, NGX Growth and NGX Sovereign Bond indices which depreciated by 2.94%, 0.12%, 0.49%, 2.28%, and 0.46% respectively while the NGX ASeM index closed flat ($1=N747.8)
