The commencement of the sitting of the presidential election tribunal and the creation of more emirates in Kano State are the trending stories in Nigerian newspapers on Thursday.
The Punch’s lead story had it that the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal led by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, assured Nigerians and the international community of its resolve to dispense justice in all the petitions challenging the outcome of the February 23 election.
The Sun also said that the Election Petition Tribunal has fixed May 15 to conduct a pre-hearing session on the petition filed by the People’s Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
The Nation said the Tribunal has assured all parties in the four petitions pending before it of fairness and warned lawyers not to make comments on the proceedings.
The Nation, like many others reported that Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has assented to the long-awaited Emir’s Appointment and Deposition Amendment Law, 2019, at the 136th state council meeting.
The event was witnessed by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and other principal officers.
