Nigerien security forces have successfully dismantled an arms trafficking network operating near the city of Tahoua, disrupting a potential supply line for terrorist groups.
In an operation led by Adjutant Abdou Amadou Boubacar, security forces seized a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, including seven AK-47 assault rifles, 25 magazines with 750 rounds, an additional 60 bullets, a pistol, 268 M80 cartridges, a motorcycle, and 639,000 CFA francs (approximately $1,004 USD). One suspect was also arrested during the operation.
Colonel-Major Oumarou Tawaye, governor of the Tahoua region, commended the security forces for their successful operation. “Imagine for a moment if this arsenal had fallen into the hands of terrorists,” he remarked, highlighting the potential for significant harm.
Mohamed Moussa, the public prosecutor for the Tahoua region, praised the “remarkable professionalism” displayed by the security forces. He emphasized that the fight against terrorism is effectively won through intelligence-driven operations that dismantle sources of fuel and arms supply.
Following the successful operation, the head of state, General Abdourahamane Tiani, and the Minister of the Interior conveyed their congratulations to the security forces. Authorities also urged the public to continue their cooperation with the defense forces in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
This successful operation demonstrates the commitment of Nigerien security forces to combating terrorism and safeguarding national security.
