A special training session for French-speaking African journalists will be held in Rabat, Morocco, during the Wanda Diamond League event in May.
This initiative aims to enhance media coverage of athletics in French-speaking Africa.
The Moroccan session is a key part of the recently launched World Athletics Media Academy, which focuses on training the next generation of sports media professionals with an emphasis on diversity and inclusivity. The Academy seeks to address gaps in talent, diversity, and expertise in athletics journalism, photography, and television commentary.
“The Academy will provide a unique opportunity to strengthen media coverage of our sport globally,” said Sebastian Coe, President of World Athletics.
The program, in partnership with the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), will offer young reporters under 30 the chance to learn from experienced mentors. The inaugural edition of the Academy will take place during the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, providing 25 journalists, photographers, and commentators the opportunity to cover this major event.
“This Academy is an opportunity to develop talent and give young professionals the skills needed to tell the story of our sport,” said Gianni Merlo, President of AIPS.
