President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulations Narendra Modi on his re-election as Indian Prime Minister and affirmed South Africa’s commitment to further expanding its ties with India.
Modi, who heads the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was elected India’s prime minister for a record-equalling third term this week after a BJP-led coalition, the National Democratic Alliance, won general elections with 293 seats.
In a statement on Friday, the South African Presidency said Ramaphosa commended Modi, who is due to be sworn-in on Sunday, for his dedication and commitment to the people of India.
The South African leader also congratulated the people of India for exercising their democratic right and peacefully participating in the electoral process, which took place in seven phases from 19 April to 1 June 2024.
He affirmed that South Africa looks forward to continue working with India on matters of importance to the people of both countries.
“President Ramaphosa has emphasised the importance of the two countries’ continued cooperation to promote the agenda of the Global South, notably the reform of the global system of governance, and to align positions in global fora in the interest of strengthening multilateral organisations,” the office said.
