Sophia, the world’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered humanoid robot to have been granted citizenship, is part of the 5th Transform Africa Summit in Kigali, APA reported Wednesday here.
The Transform Africa Summit is the Smart Africa flagship event. Following four successful editions, the fifth Summit will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from 14 – 17 May 2019.
According to the organisers, the summit which is being organised under the theme “Boosting Africa’s Digital Economy”, is also expected to attract over 4,000 participants.
Being conducted for the fifth time in Rwanda, the summit has attracted Heads of State and Government, First Ladies, UN Broadband Commissioners, Ministers, Regulators, Mayors and Governors, Publicand Private Sector, International Organizations, Industry Leaders, Investors, Entrepreneurs, Young Innovators, Civil Society and Academia.
In addition to the Smart Africa Leaders Summit, the Smart Africa Women’s Summit and interactive plenaries, the summit will feature subject specific streams tackling current ICT topics.
Delegates will be able to attend insightful and engaging streams including Hubs as well as several customized sessions by our partners.
Speaking on the sidelines of the summit , Rwandan Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente stressed that technology is very important for Africa as it offers an opportunity to realize the integration of the continent faster and smarter.
“Technology also breaks the usual borders that has traditionally defined our countries,” the senior Rwandan Government official said.
Humanoid robot Sophia is currently being used as a walking, manipulation, speech and vision development platform.
