Reports circulating on social media a few days ago, alleged that the DR Congo police chief had signed an agreement with his Rwandan counterpart to send police officers to Goma.
Earlier last week, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) agreed to boost bilateral cooperation between the two countries’ police force.
The agreement was signed by the police chiefs of both countries namely the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza and his visiting counterpart of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Commissioner General Dieudonné Amuli Bahigwa.
A few days later, demonstrations erupted Monday in the eastern DR Congo city of Goma, reportedly protesting insecurity and a possible presence of foreign police officers.
According to local media reports, at least three policemen and one civilian were killed in clashes between the police and protesters, who had blocked roads and burnt tires.
