The Ministry of Education on Sunday announced it has temporarily shut down the premises of Rwanda Polytechnic’s Integrated Polytechnic Regional College (IPRC) based in Kigali, amid investigations of theft and misappropriation of public resources.
In a communique, the education ministry also highlighted that no student, staff or the general public will be given access into the premises for the next two weeks.
“Following a decision by the government of Rwanda, ministry of Education informs all students, staff and the general public that the campus of RP-IPRC Kigali is temporarily closed for two weeks, to allow for ongoing investigation into serious cases of theft and misappropriation of public resources.”
“We call upon all individuals who may have useful information that could benefit the investigation to contact the nearest Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) office.” the ministry said.
The closure comes after the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Rwandan parliament has blamed Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) for spending more than Rwf22 billion (2 million USD) in the financial year, or about Rwf7 billion more compared to its Rwf15 billion budget (15 billion USD) that was approved by Parliament.
