APA-Johannesburg (South Africa) South African charity Gift of the Givers says it is on standby to help victims of last week’s deadly earthquake in Morocco should Rabat request for international assistance.
Gift of the Givers founder Imtiaz Sooliman said his team was waiting for a request from Moroccan government to go and render assistance to the survivors of Friday’s deadly earthquake that has killed over 2,000 people and left thousands others injured.
“We’re still waiting for the Moroccan government to make a request for international assistance,” Sooliman said.
He added: “They’re doing it on a country-by-country basis right now.”
Sooliman said his team had assembled 25 personnel ready in a search and rescue mission, and had five-dogs ready to travel to Morocco for the purpose.
In addition, there was a medical team on stand-by, he said.
The quake that hit the remote areas of the Atlas Mountains has created a challenge for rescue teams due to damaged roads that have rendered the area inaccessible.
