South Africans will on Wednesday breathe a sigh of relief to pay less for fuel at the pumps due to appreciation of the local rand currency against the US dollar and the low prices on the world crude oil market, the Ministry of Energy announced on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, both grades of petrol 95 octane and petrol 93 octane prices have been slashed by R2.04 per litre to drop to R23.38 per litre for petrol 95 octane and R22.95 per litre for petrol 93 octane.
Coastal motorists will pay R22.73 per litre for petrol 95 octane, the office said.
As for the wholesale price of 0.05% sulphur diesel will drop by 56 cents per litre, bringing the inland price to R23.96 per litre, and coastal price to R23.31 per litre, the ministry added.
The wholesale price of 0.005% diesel will be reduced by 46 cents per litre, leaving motorists to pay R24.16 per litre inland, and R23.52 per litre on the coastal area, it said.
Some lighting paraffin price will also drop by 82 cents per litre — from R17.60 to R16.81 per litre, the ministry said.
