APA-Rabat (Morocco) King Mohammed VI has received the President of the Spanish government, who is on a working visit to Morocco.
On Wednesday in Rabat, the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, reiterated his country’s support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco in 2007, as a means of sorting out the Sahara issue.
Mr. Sanchez, speaking at a press conference at the end of his working visit to the Kingdom, reaffirmed the Spanish government’s position as expressed in the Joint Declaration adopted on 7 April 2022, and that
made public at the end of the 12th session of the Morocco-Spain High-Level Meeting on 02 February 2023.
He stressed that Spain’s position on the Sahara issue was clearly expressed in these two declarations, which, he recalled, consider the autonomy plan to be “the most serious, realistic and credible basis” for resolving this regional dispute.
Earlier in the day, King Mohammed VI received the President of the Spanish government, who is on a working visit to Morocco.
Pedro Sanchez’s working visit, the first since his installation, represents an unprecedented move in relations between the two countries.
