Senegal has on Tuesday launched three enegy projects by the West African country’s National Electricity Company (Senelec).
They include the construction of indoor electrical installations for 37,500 low-income households, the securing of 20,000 canteens in nine (9) markets and the connection of 50,000 customers in difficult neighbourhoods.
“Universal access to electricity has finally mobilized the will of the government under the impetus of a Head of State determined to ensure that all Senegalese have access,” the Senelec CEO Papa Mademba Bitèye explained.
In his speech, he said that geographical discrimination cannot be used, especially for a commodity as vital and essential as electricity. This, in his opinion, explains the unprecedented commitment of the Senegalese government which has resulted in the mobilization of more than 1640 billion francs to complete the ambitious program of universal access to electricity by 2025.
“By ensuring access to electricity throughout the country,” we are not only overcoming the energy divide to make it a bad national memory, we are also giving content and substance to the promise of value creation for our compatriots with the possibility of carrying out income-generating activities, a prelude to growth and a condition for emergence,” said Bitèye.
