Two cases of Crimean Congo fever, a hemorrhagic disease, including one death, were recorded in the health
district of Birkilane, Kaffrine region (center), reports the Senegalese Press Agency.
“The health district of Birkilane has reported two cases of Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever. One of the two cases has died, the other is progressing favorably,” the regional health director of Kaffrine, Dr. Mbaye Thiam, told APS.
Dr. Thiam reassured the public that 51 identified contact cases are currently being monitored by the competent services. The virus is harboured by wild and domestic animals. It is transmitted to humans through direct contact with the blood or tissues of infected animals.
