Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has announced a deadline of May 1st, 2025 for the finalization of a National Social Stability Pact.
This follows a tripartite meeting held on February 27th, 2025, between the government, workers’ unions, and employers’ organizations.
The Prime Minister stressed the urgency of reaching a balanced agreement that addresses the needs of workers while considering the country’s economic and financial situation. Negotiations are set to begin no later than April 2nd, 2025, with the Minister of Labor leading the process in coordination with the Ministers of Civil Service and Finance.
In the meantime, the Prime Minister has urged relevant ministers to expedite the implementation of urgent measures related to concerns raised during the tripartite meeting.
The meeting highlighted the range of union demands, the importance of settling the State’s financial obligations to businesses, and the positive response from employers regarding the role of the national private sector in the Senegal 2050 Agenda and economic patriotism initiatives.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the participation of students and pupils in the discussions, emphasizing the importance of considering the future of young people in the relationship between the State and unions.
