The Director General of the Senegalese Gas Network (RGS), Pape Momar Lô, has announced significant progress in the country’s gas pipeline project, with construction set to begin by June 2025 at the latest, APA learned from media sources on Monday.
In an interview with Le Soleil, Lô revealed details about the 650 billion CFA franc ($1.07 billion) project, which was first conceived in 2019. The pipeline’s construction is advancing in phases, following a structured timeline.
“For the northern segment, the procurement process is nearing completion, and contract negotiations for construction are in their final stages. The contract signing and the official start of construction are scheduled for next quarter (Q2 2025),” Lô stated.
Additionally, technical feasibility studies (FEED) for the green segment are ongoing, while environmental and social impact assessments (ESIA) and the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) will be initiated in Q3 2025. The blue and orange segments have already completed their feasibility studies, with procurement set to follow financial closure.
The 400-km pipeline will link offshore gas fields to power plants and industries, strengthening Senegal’s energy independence and replacing fuel oil and coal with natural gas.
This transition is expected to cut energy costs, reduce CO₂ emissions by 30 million tonnes by 2050 and support cleaner and more affordable energy production.
The RGS has also signed an agreement with APIX, Senegal’s investment promotion agency, to streamline land acquisition for the project. This ensures smooth implementation in line with the country’s sustainable development goals.
