Several party activists and supporters expressed outrage, citing Ly-Tall’s past criticisms of party leader Ousmane Sonko. They unearthed past social media posts where Ly-Tall had criticized Sonko, particularly in relation to the “Adji Sarr affair,” a legal case that has significantly impacted Sonko’s political career.
Despite calls for calm from party officials, the discontent continued, with some activists criticizing President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Minister of Communication Alioune Sall for proposing Ly-Tall’s appointment.
Late Sunday evening, Ousmane Sonko intervened to address the growing discontent within his party. He reminded supporters of the sacrifices made by President Faye during their years in opposition, including his imprisonment by the previous regime.
Sonko emphasised that President Faye, as head of state, has the constitutional authority to make such appointments and urged his supporters to avoid unnecessary polemics and threats.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by the ruling party in navigating internal dissent while maintaining clear sight on its political objectives.
