However, under the leadership of Director General Musayeroh Barrie, the SLCAA has made significant progress in addressing the safety concerns that led to the blacklisting. Two successful meetings with the EU safety commission have resulted in a roadmap aimed at removing Sierra Leone from the list by the end of 2025.
It’s important to note that Air Sierra Leone, the national carrier, does not currently hold an AOC from the SLCAA. Therefore, its planned operations on regional routes using a Nigerian AOC and on UK routes using a UK AOC are not affected by the EU ban.
The removal from the EU blacklist would be a significant achievement for Sierra Leone’s aviation sector, opening up new opportunities for air travel and boosting the country’s tourism and economic development.
