Dr. Sengeh highlighted the success of the Salone Civic Festival, an event that brought together citizens and government officials to discuss progress and challenges. He also emphasized the government’s efforts to attract foreign investment, citing significant investments from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and other sources.
The MCC funding, exceeding $1 billion, will be used to improve access to electricity, a crucial step in attracting further investment and creating jobs. The Chief Minister assured citizens that these funds will be utilized effectively through implementing partners, ensuring transparency and accountability.
He also pointed to other successful initiatives, such as the British investment in Miro at Mile 91, which has created numerous job opportunities for young people in the region. Furthermore, Sierra Leone has received substantial funding from the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC), which will directly benefit citizens through job creation during the implementation of electricity infrastructure projects.
Dr. Sengeh emphasized that the government has made significant strides in stabilizing the economy, citing improvements in the exchange rate and increased revenue from the tourism sector following the completion of the new airport.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Chief Minister declared this year as “a year of delivery and bold action.” He highlighted the government’s commitment to building upon the successes of the past year and implementing policies that will further improve the lives of all Sierra Leoneans.
