The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested at least six people including senior managers in the health sector over alleged corruption in procurement projects and bribery for promotion, a police source confirmed to APA on Tuesday.
The amount involved still needs to be clarified to those arrested, it said.
A source close to the investigation said the suspects are believed to have solicited a bribe of ten percent from the total project value worth millions for the supply of medical equipment.
The latest Corruption Perception Index by Transparency International ranks Rwanda as the fourth least corrupt country in Africa although senior government officials have been frequently arrested over graft.
According to the same index it is the least corrupt country in East Africa, followed by Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Burundi respectively.
