The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) carried out another airstrike on Sunday targeting Islamic State (ISIS) in Somalia.
It came just two weeks after a large-scale operation that eliminated a key figure within the militant organisation.
According to AFRICOM, two suspected ISIS fighters were killed in the northeastern region of Somalia on February 16.
This strike follows a February 1 operation in which U.S. forces targeted a network of cave complexes located 80 kilometers southeast of Bosaso, eliminating 14 militants, including Ahmed Maeleninine—a high-ranking recruiter, financier, and planner responsible for external operations, including the dispatch of fighters to the West.
AFRICOM emphasised that no civilians were harmed in either mission.
The ongoing U.S. campaign aims to degrade ISIS’s operational capabilities in Somalia, particularly in Puntland, where the group maintains an active presence.
