Niger has taken a significant step in its digital transition with the official launch of Starlink services across its territory, opening up new connectivity opportunities for both residents and businesses.
Starlink’s satellite internet services are now officially available in
Niger, the Minister of Communication, Posts, and Digital Economy, announced on Thursday in a statement broadcast on national television.
“I am pleased to inform the public that Starlink internet services have been officially launched and are available in Niger as of today, March 13, 2025,” declared Minister Sidi Mohamed Raliou in the official statement.
This development marks a key milestone for internet access in the Sahelian country. The government noted that residential and professional kits can now be purchased online or through authorized vendors within Niger.
However, the minister outlined the conditions for using the new service. “In line with current regulations, these internet services are strictly for the personal or professional use of the individual customer who owns the Starlink kit,” he clarified.
He also emphasized user accountability: “Customers with these kits are solely responsible for how they use their connections, any sharing of access, and the resulting consequences, in accordance with the signed regulations.”
The arrival of Starlink, a company owned by American billionaire Elon Musk, could significantly enhance internet connectivity in Niger’s rural and remote areas, which have long been underserved by traditional terrestrial infrastructure.
