The Sudanese ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the Declaration of Freedom and Change have agreed on the establishment of sovereign and executive councils for a period of three and a half years.
They also agreed on the power and duties of a legislative council whose representation to be determined in talks to be held in the future, the Ethiopian Embassy in Khartoum has disclosed.
The two Parties also agreed to release detainees, restore internet access, and conduct independent investigation into the measures taken by the TMC to disperse the sit-in outside army headquarters in
Khartoum.
The deal came after two days of talks hosted by the Ethiopian Envoy Ambassador Mohamud Dirir and African Union (AU) Envoy Mohamed El Hassan Ould Lebat. Mediators led by Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed and AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat have been trying to broker a return to direct talks between the two sides.
Prime Minister Dr Abiy and Moussa Faki Mahamat also held in-depth talks on the situation in the Sudan this week. They welcomed the significant progress made in the negotiations between the parties and encouraged the actors in Sudan to redouble their efforts to overcome their differences.
