Switzerland’s Special Envoy for the Sahel, Cedrine Berney, met on Wednesday with Burkinabe Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean Marie Traore, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Additionally, Berney introduced the “Geneva Peace Week” initiative, an international forum that the Burkinabe diplomat found interesting, while emphasizing that any potential participation by Burkina Faso should be coordinated with other members of the Sahel States Alliance (AES).
The Burkinabe minister outlined the latest developments regarding the AES and its relations with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), emphasising that the alliance works in the interest of the sub-region and the continent.
Minister Traore noted that Switzerland is “one of the partners that has stood by Burkina Faso during this difficult period.”
