Hundreds of protesters, many of them women, took to streets of the capital despite a government ban on rallies and a state of emergency in place since last month.
According to eyewitness accounts, the demonstrations took place in several districts of Khartoum and the city of Omdurman.
The protesters chanted “freedom, peace and justice”.
The rally led by the Sudanese Professional Association took advantage of International Women’s Day to honor women in Sudan for their role in the ongoing nationwide protests to force Bashir to quit power.
It was the fourth series of protest since Bashir imposed a one-year national state of emergency banning gatherings, rallies and strikes last week.
However, tens of protesters have been reportedly arrested and badly beaten by security forces.
Protests in Sudan begun last December over an unexpected increase in the price of bread.
It quickly spread to other cities and states demanding an end to Bashir’s 30-year rule.
