APA – Kigali (Rwanda) – Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) on Sunday confirmed the arrest of Claver Hakizimana, in charge of tenders at the Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA), only two days after his former boss was also nabbed over the same offense.
Others in custody, according to sources, are the former Director General of Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA), Prof Jean Bosco Harelimana who has been arrested over the same claims of financial misconduct.
The review of monitoring and evaluation report on implementation status of RCA audit recommendations on 46 cooperatives sampled among audits carried out between 2016 and 2021, revealed embezzlement amounting to Rwf871,522,147 ( $ 817,000 USD) occurred in 34 cooperatives. RCA audit recommended to recover the amount.
However, only Rwf17,894,180 ($17,000 USD) equivalent to 2% of total embezzlement was recovered by cooperatives.
RIB which announced the arrest on two officials said the duo connived in embezzling public funds.
