APA-Johannesburg (South Africa) Coal shipments through South Africa’s Richards Bay port have been suspended following a collision of two goods trains at the weekend, state-run railway operator announced on Monday.
According to Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), two trains collided at Elubana on Sunday, forcing coal shipments to be suspended.
“Recovery efforts are underway after a derailment in which two trains collided in the early hours of Sunday,” TFR said in a statement.
The accident occurred close to the key Richards Bay Coal Terminal through which South Africa exports its coal to the European Union and other regions.
