At least eight people have been killed and 54 others injured in Mozambique following a tropical storm that has left a trail of destruction and displaced thousands in affected regions, the country’s relief agency said on Wednesday.
The National Institute for Management and Disaster Risk Reduction said more than 3,000 homes, clinics and schools have been damaged by Tropical Storm Ana, which made landfall in Mozambique on Monday.
According to the institute, over 600 of the houses have been completely destroyed, leaving more than 20,000 people in need of shelter and scores others injured.
Tropical Storm Ana has dumped heavy rains on Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe since Monday.
Reports say the storm knocked out power supplies in neighbouring Malawi as flooding damaged electricity installations.
At least four people are reported to have died due to the flooding in parts of Malawi.
