In the same move to reduce its key interest rate from 8 percent to 7.5 percent, the Tunisian Central Bank (BCT) has also decided to lower the minimum savings interest rate to 6.5 percent.
It also reduces the rates for the 24-hour deposit and marginal lending facilities, which are now 6.5 percent and 8.5 percent, respectively.
These reductions follow a previous increase on December 30, 2022, when the Central Bank raised these rates to 7 percent and 9 percent, and the minimum savings interest rate to 7 percent.
This change in monetary policy is a signal intended to support economic recovery amid a slowdown.
