The statement attributed this to the annual core inflation that increased to 3.7 percent in February 2019 compared to 3.4 percent in January 2019.
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) attributes the increase in core inflation to annual communication inflation that rose to 21.4 percent in February compared to 5.5 percent in January.
Telephone services inflation rose to 28.7 percent in February compared to 7.0 percent in January 2019.
Telephone equipment inflation increased to 1.2 percent in February compared to 0.5 percent in January.
According to UBOS the annual food crops and related items inflation rate eased to 4.4 percent in February 2019 from 5.2 percent in January due to the annual fruits inflation at 3.8 percent in February compared to 8.3 percent of January 2019.
The 49 percent increase in passport fee is also among the things said to have contributed to the rise in core inflation.
Uganda increased the price of passports after the introduction of East African Community electronic passports.
