United Kingdom Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds has appointed Ben Coleman as the new UK trade envoy for Morocco and West Africa.
The appointment is part of a government strategy to strengthen the competitiveness of British businesses internationally and boost inward investment.
According to a statement on Tuesday, 31 other trade envoys have also been appointed, covering a total of 79 strategic markets.
These envoys will play a central role in implementing the UK government’s economic priorities, including facilitating access for British businesses to new markets and strengthening international trade relationships.
They will also contribute to attracting foreign direct investment to the UK’s various regions, while supporting the country’s industrial and commercial strategies.
Coleman, a member of the House of Commons representing Chelsea and
Fulham in west London, will take on the mission of strengthening economic and trade partnerships with Morocco and West Africa.
A member of the Labour Party, Coleman embodies the government’s desire to consolidate strategic relationships in key regions, where economic opportunities are booming.
Economic relations between Morocco and the UK have taken on new momentum since the signing of the Morocco-United Kingdom Association Agreement in 2021.
This agreement, which came into force in January of the same year, has enabled a significant increase in trade between the two Kingdoms.
This partnership aims to capitalise on economic complementarities and strengthen cooperation in strategic sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy and innovative technologies.
Coleman’s appointment comes at a time of growing momentum between the UK and Morocco, as the two nations seek to explore common opportunities in emerging markets in Africa.
