The United States government has rescinded the entry visa of Fatou Bensouda in her capacity as the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), APA learnt Friday.
Ms. Bensouda’s US visa was withdrawn following a warning to that effect by Washington over the ICC’s attempt to investigate war crimes allegations thought to have been committed by American troops in Afghanistan.
The United States is not a signotaory to the convention that set up the ICC.
In March US said it would either revoke visas or refuse them to ICC officials linked to probing the role of its troops in the supposed violations in Afghanistan.
In ligjht of the US visa threats, the office of the ICC chief prosecutor had refused to budge in the face of this latest punitive move by Washington.
It said without fear or favour Ms. Bensouda, a Gambian, will continue to lead the investigations into the role of US forces accused of war crimes in the Asian country.
