The award was presented by the Chadian authorities during a state dinner in his honour.
The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, who is also facilitator for the Economic Community of Central African States (CEECC) in monitoring the transition in Chad, arrived in Ndjamena in the early evening of 24 June on a 48-hour state visit.
During a state dinner given in his honour, President Felix Tshisekedi was elevated to the ”dignity of Grand Cross in the National Order of Chad” by his Chadian counterpart Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.
This distinction, the highest in Chad, is a mark of recognition expressed to President Félix Tshisekedi for his tireless efforts as CEEAC facilitator for the transition in Chad, Chadian diplomacy explains.
As a further act of recognition, an avenue in Ndjamena will be named after Felix Tshisekedi on 25 June 2024.
In his thank-you speech, the Congolese president reaffirmed his commitment to continue working for peace, security, understanding, national cohesion and development in Chad and Africa.
“The success of the transition in Chad is a great lesson in political maturity and patriotism for the whole of Africa,” he said.
The end of the working and friendly visit will be marked by the signing of bilateral agreements to strengthen strategic cooperation between Chad and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
