APA – Kigali (Rwanda) – Rwanda and Zimbabwe have settled for a goalless draw after Wednesday’s opening qualifier for the 2026 football World Cup.
The match was played at the Huye Stadium located in southern Rwanda.
Zimbabwe were close to breaking the deadlock as early as the 7th minute when Shandirwa Tanaka was beautifully played through on by Prince Dube but Rwanda shot stopper Fiacre Ntwari was alive to the danger.
Rwanda’s chance came in the 32nd minute when Gilbert Mugisha dummied his marker inside out but his shot took a deflection and went off target.
The last five minutes of the game saw Rwanda pushing more men forward but Zimbabwe held firm at the back to see out the rest of the game.
Rwanda are expected to return to World Cup qualifier action on November 21 when they host South Africa at the Huye Stadium.
