According to Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah, the incident involved a group of “nickeled” (thugs) armed with machetes who were under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
The attackers, who arrived at the presidential palace in a vehicle, overwhelmed the guards, resulting in the death of one guard and injuries to others. Six attackers were apprehended alive.
Minister Koulamallah emphasized that this was not a terrorist attack, stating, “This is an attack that is completely desperate.” He attributed the incident to a group of individuals under the influence of drugs and alcohol, who were likely acting irrationally.
The government has launched an investigation into the incident, and the public prosecutor is expected to release further details in the coming hours.
