Traffic had been suspended since April 8, 2023 following the derailment of a freight train in Kan, south of Bouake, the main city in central Cote d’Ivoire.
“Following the incident that occurred on April 8, 2023 in the locality of Kan, Sitarail announces the restoration of rail traffic, this Tuesday, April 11, 2023 around 23h (GMT), on the entire network, from Abidjan to Ouagadougou,” a note from the railway company said.
The incident had forced the company to temporarily interrupt train traffic in the area concerned. With a view to restoring the line, the company’s technical teams worked alongside local authorities to restore the track and resume traffic.
On Saturday, April 8, 2023, a freight train derailed in the locality of Kan, Cote d’Ivoire, causing an injury to the escort team and material damage, Sitarail announced the same day of the incident.
