Namibia plans to set up a specialised public procurement court to handle disputes related to government contracts, Finance and Public Enterprises Minister Iipumbu Shiimi announced on Thursday.
The proposal is part of the 2025 Public Procurement Amendment Bill, which Shiimi tabled in Parliament.
The bill seeks to address challenges in the implementation of the 2015 Public Procurement Act, particularly in resolving disputes efficiently.
“This Bill directly responds to the need for a more efficient and just procurement process, particularly in dispute resolution, thereby safeguarding public funds and promoting effective service delivery,” Shiimi said.
The move comes amid growing concerns over delays and inefficiencies in Namibia’s procurement system, which has faced criticism for its handling of disputes.
The establishment of a specialised court is expected to streamline the process, ensuring faster and fairer resolutions.
