Since Saturday, August 10, wildfires have swept through the provinces of Bejaia and Tizi-Ouzou, causing significant damage. In Bejaia, a major blaze erupted near Adekar, threatening nearby homes and villages. The situation is exacerbated by strong winds and intense heat, making firefighting efforts extremely challenging. Aerial support has been deployed to assist ground crews in battling the infernos.
These fires evoke painful memories of the catastrophic 2021 wildfires in Kabylia, which resulted in tragic loss of life, widespread destruction, and environmental devastation.
Multiple fires have also been reported in Tizi-Ouzou, including in the communes of Larbaâ Nath Irathen, Azzouza, and Ath Ferah. Residents in Beni Douala, another affected area, have appealed for assistance as flames approach their homes.
Authorities are committed to combating these fires and have mobilized all available resources to bring the situation under control.
