APA-Dakar (Senegal) – This is the third site to be dismantled by the army since 22 April 2024.
In eastern Senegal, on the Faleme River, the army dismantled an illegal gold panning site on Wednesday.
According to the Armed Forces Public Relations Directorate (DIRPA) on its X account (formerly Twitter), 15 individuals of foreign extractions were arrested.
In addition to the arrests, equipment such as generators, solar panels, tricycles and motorbikes, as well as cans of acid, were seized.
The DIRPA explained that this illegal activity poses a serious threat to the environment and health, particularly in the eastern regions of Senegal, due to water pollution caused by the use of dangerous
substances such as cyanide and acid.
This is the third site to be dismantled by the Senegalese army since 22 April 2024.
