The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Monday lost to their Benin Republic counterparts 1-2 in the fourth round of the World Cup qualifier.
In the match played in Abidjan Stadium saw the Super Eagles take the lead in the 28th minute through Raphael Onyedika.
The Benin Republic got the equalizer in the 37th minute through Jodei Dossou who capitalized on the defensive error by the Super Eagles players within the 18-yard box.
Mohammed Tijani scored the second goal for Benin Republic when he slotted the free ball from a corner kick into the Nigerian net shortly before the end of the first half to bring the score line to 2-1.
Despite the changes made in the second half by Super Eagles Coach Finidi George, it could not result to the equalizer as the opposition defenders were able to contain the spirited attacks from the Super Eagles.
With this defeat, the Super Eagles are still 5th in Group C and their chances of qualifying from this group are becoming doubtful.
