Benin holds legislative elections on April 28, 2019.
According to the minutes of the meeting seen by APA on Tuesday, President Talon, while appreciating the ECOWAS mission’s initiative to meet with the various political actors in Benin, assured its members of an “inclusive, transparent, democratic and credible elections” next month.
According to him, the reforms are being carried out in all sectors of Benin, including the partisan system, the charter of political parties and the electoral code.
The Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, who led the delegation, Finda Koroma, expressed her satisfaction with the measures taken by the various components of the electoral process for the smooth conduct of the legislative elections.
She also welcomed the readiness of the Beninese leader to engage in dialogue.
The ECOWAS mission was in Benin, in accordance with Protocol a/sp1/12/01 on democracy and good governance and the protocol on the ECOWAS mechanism for conflict prevention, management, resolution, peacekeeping and security.
