APA – Lagos (Nigeria) Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu was on Monday in Abuja sworn in as the President of Nigeria for a four-year term by the Chief Justice Kayode Ariwoola.
The Chief Justice of Nigeria also administered the oath of office to Alhaji Kashim Shettima as the Vice President of Nigeria.
Tinubu, who had earlier served as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and governor of Lagos State was declared the winner of the February 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in an election largely described by local and foreign observers and media as flawed and the conduct below acceptable international standards.
Tinubu, who ran as the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) polled a total of 8,794,726 votes to defeat his closest rival, Alhaji Atilu Abubakar, a former Vice President and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled a total of 6,984,520 votes in the election, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) came third with a total of 6,101,533 votes.
According to local media reports, some African leaders who attended the inauguration ceremony included the new Prime Minister of Gabon, Billy By-Nze, President of the Republic of Cote D’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara; Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo and Rwandan President, Paul Kagame.
