At the initiative of the Agency for the Support of Widows, Orphans, and War Victims (ASVOVIG), Burkina Faso’s military leader Captain Ibrahim Traoré, met with widows and orphans of combat forces who lost their lives in the fight against terrorism.
The head of state announced the establishment of a comprehensive registry to ensure effective support for widows, orphans, and those injured due to terrorism—a scheme in the making he described as nearly complete.
On the issue of empowering widows, Captain Traoré emphasised that measures are being implemented to enable state financing funds to support those who wish to start businesses or are already engaged in entrepreneurial activities.
For widows with academic qualifications who meet the criteria, the president affirmed that steps are underway to reserve quotas for them in public administration recruitment and in newly established factories.
Addressing the care of the nation’s wards, Captain Traoré revealed plans to build boarding schools for these children, with their education fully funded.
The national conference on the support of widows and orphans of combat forces took place from 11 to 13 March 2025 in Ouagadougou, under the theme: “Psychosocial Reconstruction and Empowerment of Widows and Orphans of Combat Forces: Assessment and Perspectives.”
