The Congolese subsidiary of the French multinational firm Bollore Transport and Logistics Congo has held an awareness campaign on HIV targeting hundreds of young people in school.
Bolloré Congo, convinced that prevention is better than cure went into a partnership with the Congolese Association for Family Welfare (Acbef), visiting the Pointe-Noire General Education College where sensitization on AIDS, one of the world’s most feared diseases was held from December 1 to 3.
Over 300 students viewed films explaining the dynamics of AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), a Bollore statement seen by APA on Wednesday said.
During this activity, Franck Kinanga, Country Legal Director of Bolloré Transport & Logistics Congo, declared: “Our ambition is to give young people the keys to their autonomy. This is why we owe it to ourselves to make them aware of the existence of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases which are always a threat. Our field of action goes beyond awareness raising since we also cover 100 percent of the costs of voluntary and anonymous testing “.
Klément Mvembe, Coordinator of Acbef in Pointe-Noire, stressed that “this action is very important because the target population is made up of more than 50 percent of young people”.
Myembe claimed that the spread of AIDS among adolescents and those with early pregnancies are the main cause of school dropout for girls.
Every year, Bolloré Transport & Logistics and its subsidiaries say they hold awareness campaigns to mark the International Day against HIV / AIDS.
Targeting their employees and beneficiaries, the firm also holds voluntary screening sessions to act in a sustainable and efficient manner.
